Until a few years ago, sinusitis patients were limited to two treatment options: medical therapy such as antibiotics and topical nasal steroids or conventional sinus surgery including Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS). Medical therapy can help alleviate symptoms for some patients, however, for 20-25% of sufferers, this alone is not adequate. While FESS works well, many patients do not want surgery in the hospital if this can be avoided. Fortunately, we now have techniques to significantly improve symptoms that can be performed in the office. Procedures that are performed in the office involve having patients take oral medicines for relaxation, the nose is anesthetized using sprays, procedure typically takes less than 30 minutes, full normal activity the following day.
Balloon Sinuplasty™ is safe and effective in relieving symptoms of sinusitis. This minimally invasive technology gently open blocked sinuses, with reduced bleeding, a faster recovery time, and may even be used with other medical treatment options if a patient has progressive disease.
